Varian sells Electron Devices unit

The Electron Devices business, which sells vacuum tubes, power supplies and amplifiers for the health care and other industries, has locations in San Carlos, Santa Clara and Palo Alto, Calif.; Beverly, Mass.; and Georgetown, Ont., Canada, and employs about 1,700 people.

LGP will change the name of its new unit to Communications & Power Industries. Al D. Wilunowski, Varian's executive vice president and head of the Electron Devices business, will become CEO of the unit under its new ownership.
