Design Architecture

Architectural Review, The, June, 2000

Design Architecture is one of the most convincing attempts yet to set up an electronic international architectural magazine which is not based on a paper original. Edited by Kirsten Richards in New York, the site has a roving reporter and European Editor in Chief, Kirsten Kiser, who writes cheery newsletters from for instance France and the Left Coast of the USA. These are illustrated with individual pictures and sometimes connections to architects' sites, which can provide a great deal more information about individual projects. Features are architect site orientated too, and tend to be either Scandinavian (Schmidt Hammer Lassen' television station in East Jutland for instance) or American. But there was a link to a Berlin gallery and the Biblioth[grave{e}]que Nationale de France.

The 'complete calendar' lists competitions, conferences and exhibitions, but like most of the other content (for instance news items), is limited to the USA and northern Europe. But news is updated daily and is usually worth a glance. As usual with the web, coverage of buildings is skimpy (no drawings for instance), but mentions can usually be followed up on paper.
