503 Schuco - Product Review - UN building in Hamburg, Germany - Brief Article

Architectural Review, The, Feb, 2002

A new UN building in Hamburg. the seat of the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea, has recently been completed. Set in spacious parkland on the banks of the Elbchaussee. the building has a glazed twin-walled facade, a system which allows extensive views out while avoiding the need for air-conditioning.

The internal skin is based on the Schuco Royal S75 profile and has aluminium-framed opening lights. The external skin is a mullion and transom construction with fixed glazed lights; pivoting glass slats are provided for air circulation. The skins were manufactured as floor to ceiling units; the air space between is divided by glazed partitions into box windows', to prevent the spread of sound and fire.
