Re: Architecture for All - Letters - Letter to the Editor

Architectural Review, The, August, 2003 by P.M. Rose

SIR: Thank you for mentioning the Architecture for All Project and Campaign (Browser, AR June, p28). The article was however somewhat incorrect as the Adopt a Drawing Scheme which forms part of the [pounds sterling]10 million campaign to re-house the RIBA Drawings Collection and create new study rooms and Architectural Galleries at the V & A will ensure that supporters donating [pounds sterling]100 or more are offered the opportunity to adopt a drawing. The figures mentioned in the article of donations between [pounds sterling]5000 and [pounds sterling]50 000 are in respect of the adoption of the most prized drawings in the collection which totals over 600 000 and which is part of our national heritage.

With regards to the doubt expressed about the opening of new galleries, thanks to the support of the Heritage Lottery Fund, private donors. RIBA regions, members, personnel and the British Architectural Library Trust fundraising team, we are on the way to achieving our target. As a result the project will commence in the Autumn of this year with an envisaged completion date by the end of 2004.

On a final note. I do feel that for a major donation the 'Sutherland Lyall Curatorship' has a nice ring about it and would bring pleasure to Charles Hind.

Yours etc
