NOX: Machining Architecture

Architectural Review, The, Nov, 2004

D-tower, an urban monument that will change colour with the emotions of its town's citizens. One of the many bloboid manifestations from NOX: Machining Architecture by Lars Spuybroek, Thames & Hudson, London, 2004, [pounds sterling]29.95. Spuybroek, who heads the NOX office in Rotterdam, claims to be one of the few architects of his persuasion who has actually built some of his fantasies (though this isn't one of them). For him, 'computers have outgrown their servile function' and now the computer is 'a steering device'. The book is a combination of manifesto and manual, and perhaps its most interesting sections show how the complex forms are actually put together.
