Seagram building to have Roy Lichtenstein sculpture

Real Estate Weekly, Oct 10, 2001

RFR Holding LLC announced the installation of a monumental Roy Lichtenstein sculpture, "Brushstroke," this week at the Seagram Building Plaza at 375 Park Ave. Made of painted aluminum and measuring 32 feet in height, the yellow and black "Brushstroke" is from a series of sculptures that Lichtenstein completed just before his death in 1997. It is the first sculpture in this recent series to be exhibited publicly and will be on display through Spring 2002.

The open, expansive plaza of the Seagram Building and its long history of fine art exhibitions is a perfect compliment to the simple, modern artistry of "Brushstroke." RFR Holding LLC, which acquired the Mies vander Rohe/Philip Johnson-designed skyscraper in late 2000, plans to hold a ceremonial dinner in October to formally celebrate the installation.

"We were delighted to' be approached to provide the first public exhibition of a sculpture created by a legendary artist," said Aby Rosen, principal of RFR Holding LLC.

"When my business partner, Michael Fuchs, and I acquired the Seagram Building, one of our many goals for the property was to restore its rich history as a prime location for public art exhibition. We are enormously proud to be working with the Lichtenstein estate and the Gagosian Gallery to bring 'Brushstroke' to the public."
