Tax relief report released by firm in wake of trade center tragedy
Real Estate Weekly, Oct 17, 2001
"In the wake of the Sept. 11 horrors, we should all use the skills we possess to help those who are now in need," says Stanley Freundlich, managing partner of David Berdon & Co. LLP. In that spirit, the tax professionals at the firm researched and assembled a five-page report -- After the Tragedy: Tax Relief.
This report is a resource for any individuals or businesses that have been directly or indirectly impacted by the terrorist attacks. With so many whose lives have been disrupted, After The Tragedy offers valuable information on the various tax return and payment extensions that have been granted, including specific extensions for those affected in New York City, New York State, New Jersey, and Connecticut. There is important information for taxpayers who will be claiming casualty losses on their tax returns and news on expediting the formation of charitable organizations.
"This is an ongoing process," says Alan Johnson, the firm's tax principal. "Legislation for additional tax relief for the victims is before Congress and we are monitoring developments."
While Berdon tax professionals stay on top of the opportunities for tax relief, the firm is also committing its resources to help develop the Windows Of Hope Family Relief Fund. This charitable organization is being formed to help the dependents and families of restaurant and hotel workers killed in the terrorist attacks.
