James Houlihan awarded 'Spirit of Ireland' award Oct. 15

James J. Houlihan was awarded the Spirit of Ireland Award on Oct. 15 at a gala dinner dance benefiting the Irish Arts Center at the New York Athletic Club. The award was presented to Jim Houlihan, partner at Houlihan-Parnes Realtors and chairman of iCap Realty Advisors, Inc., in recognition of his commitment to raising awareness of Irish arts and culture.

Most recently Houlihan served as chairman of "The Great Hunger Memorial of Westchester County" committee, which erected a Great Hunger Memorial in Westchester County. In addition, Houlihan has hosted and led fundraising events for the Irish Arts Center and has organized an annual Irish music concert for eight years that benefited St. Thomas Aquinas School in the South Bronx. During his chairmanship, more than $300,000 was donated to the school development fund as a direct result of the success of the Irish concert series.

Among those attending the event at the New York Athletic Club were actors Gabriel Byrne, Liam Neeson, and Chris Noth, noted actor and author Malachy McCourt, and writer and director, Terry George. Pauline Turley, executive director of the Irish Arts Center, presented the award. The bronze sculpture re award was created by Eamonn O'Doherty, the renowned Dublin based sculptor who designed the Great Hunger Memorial.
