Rand Engineering

Real Estate Weekly, Dec 11, 2002

Rand Engineering, an integrated engineering and architectural services firm, has hired two new project engineers. Bernard Keenan and Steven Samiljan.

Keenan, who has a background in computer model design and finite element analysis, joins Rand's mechanical engineering team, where he will handle the design and specifications for upgrades to heating and ventilation, electrical, and plumbing systems.

Before joining Rand, Keenan's projects included the design of mechanical components at Pratt & Whitney and design, analysis, and testing for the U.S. Army and NASA. He has a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from the City University of New York.

Samiljan's responsibilities will cover the design and construction management for structural repair, facade restoration, and roofing projects. In his previous position at Luke LiCalzi, P.E., P.C., Consulting Engineers, Samiljan worked on the structural design of steel-frame buildings, Local Law 10/80 facade inspections, exterior restorations, and sidewalk and vault repair.

He has a bachelor's of science degree in civil engineering from Polytechnic University in Brooklyn, where he is currently studying for a master's of science in civil engineering and construction management.

"Bernard and Steven give added depth to our already strong staff of engineers," said Stephen Varone, director of operations at Rand, now a 28-person firm. "Bernard's mechanical design experience will play an important role in the increasing number of heating, electrical, and plumbing projects we have undertaken, while Steven's strong background in exterior restoration and structural design are a natural fit for our long history of repair and upgrade work."
