City & Suburban celebrates reopening of renovated Bronx bank
Real Estate Weekly, Dec 26, 2001
City & Suburban federal savings bank celebrated American pride with the reopening of its renovated Allerton Ave. branch in the Bronx on Saturday, Nov. 10, 2001.
According to Thomas W. Schettino, president of City & Suburban, the bank decided to renovate its Allerton Ave. branch "to reaffirm our commitment to the Bronx and to say thank you to the community for making it the second largest branch in our bank."
"We've streamlined customer handling, made the branch more comfortable and attractive and, unlike some of the larger banks, we're not cutting back on our staff, we still provide one-on-one personal service," said Richard A. Karpowich, senior vice president and director of operations and retail banking.
When asked about the $30,000 check being presented to the New York Police & Fire Widows' & Children's Benefit Fund, Schettino said, "Immediately after the September 11th tragedy, we decided to do something for the families of the heroes.
Our equally concerned depositors and employees donated the sum of $15,000, which we collected and matched with an additional $15,000. We then called our local police and fire departments who sent their representatives for the presentation."
The American Pride Celebration consisted of a number of additional events that took place to the accompaniment of a Dixieland Americana Band.
