CREWNY raises $8,800 to benefit Lower Manhattan Cultural Council

Real Estate Weekly, Jan 2, 2002

Commercial Real Estate Women of New York raised $8,800 to benefit the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council through a live auction held at its 13th annual dinner on Nov. 15. Three works of art, which include Night Work by Carl Scorza, 'New York Depth' by Torild Stray, and View from the World Trade Center, Spring 2000 Brooklyn and Manhattan Bridges by Joan Cobb Marsh were auctioned by Ray Kurdziel of Christies. The art pieces depict scenes of Manhattan as seen from the LMCC studio space at the former World Trade Center.

"CREW*NY is totally committed to the recovery of Downtown New York," said Caroline Harcourt, president of the organization, "and it seemed appropriate for CREW*NY to hold an auction benefiting the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council. We are truly thankful to the individual buyers for helping this organization."

More than 320 people attended the dinner held at the Union League Club, which honored the achievements of Mary Ann Tighe, vice chairman of Insignia / ESG as CREW*NY's Woman of the Year. The event also featured the 2001 recipients of the CREW*NY/ Baruch College real estate scholarship program: June Bennett and Hamidat Abdul-Wahab. All attendees received a signed original of BELIEVE, a photograph by Tim Hailand, a former artist in residence with the World Views program of the LMCC. The work was created during Tim's residency on the 91st floor of the WTC.
