Bernard H. Mendik Lifetime Leadership in Real Estate

Honoring exceptional service to the real estate industry and professional accomplishment over the course of a distinguished career, The Bernard H. Mendik Lifetime Leadership in Real Estate Award is being presented to Daniel Brodsky, partner of The Brodsky Organization.
Mr. Brodsky has served this family run real estate business since 1970, when he joined his father Nathan to develop and manage attractive and affordable spaces for New Yorkers. In his more than thirty years with The Brodsky Organization, he has developed and completed residential projects as large as 1,000 apartments and as small as 73 apartments.
A hands-on developer, Mr. Brodsky works on all aspects of a project from site selection to construction to financing to marketing to managing. Mr. Brodsky graduated with a B.A in 1966 from the University of Pennsylvania and obtained a Masters degree in Urban Planning from New York University in 1968. His first job was with the Hudson River Valley Commission, where he studied various ways of controlling the expansion along the Hudson River. Throughout his career he has been an advocate for policy that encourages development while creating new housing to meet the needs of many people. His successful campaign to revise the 80/20 Rental Housing Tax-Exempt Finance Program provided developers with incentives to build responsibly and to invest in a community.
Mr. Brodsky is currently an executive committee vice chairperson of the Real Estate Board of New York and the Chairperson for its Owners and Builders Division. In addition to this distinction, Mr. Brodsky is the President of the Board of Directors for Park 79th Corporation, is a Board of Trustee Member and the Real Estate Council President for the Metropolitan Museum of Art and sits on the board of directors for the New York City Ballet and the Lincoln Center Development Project.
His past board memberships include Trustee of the American Museum of Natural History, The Municipal Art Society, The Riverdale Country School, The Brearley School, The Dalton School, St. Bernard's School and The Trinity School.
The Bernard H. Mendik Lifetime Leadership in Real Estate Award is named for Bernard H. Mendik, who served as REBNY's chairperson from 1992 to his passing in 2001.
