Who was Louis Smadbeck?

Real Estate Weekly, Jan 17, 2007

A three-term REBNY governor, Louis Smadbeck graduated from Brown University in 1942 and joined the Army's Signal Intelligence Service. During WWII, he was sent to England to work under British command that deciphered German communications.

One of the industry's most respected brokers, the firm Charle F. Noyes was the launch pad for his career, which was interrupted by the Korean War, in which he served as an intelligence officer in Japan.

In 1960, he joined Wm. A White and later became president. The firm acquired Tishman East Management and was later sold to Grubb & Ellis. Smadbeck died in 1992.
