Authority allies with MBOC. and the Dormitory Authority of the State of New York

Real Estate Weekly, Jan 17, 2001

The Brooklyn/Queens Minority Business Opportunity Committee (MBOC) and the Dormitory Authority of the State of New York have signed a memorandum of understanding, establishing a strategic alliance between the agencies to increase participation of minority and women-owned business enterprises on contracts funded by the Dormitory Authority.

"We are very excited about this new alliance with the Dormitory Authority," said Pat Williams, director of MBOC, a program offered by the Brooklyn Economic Development Corporation (BEDC). "We believe that our combined efforts to assist minority and women business enterprises will increase contracting opportunities for our clients."

Emory Jackson, director of the Dormitory Authority's office of opportunity programs added, "Establishing this relationship with MBOC will help us link with many private sector resources within the New York City region."

As part of the memorandum of understanding, the Dormitory Authority provided MBOC with a small grant to develop comprehensive outreach and technical assistance programs to inform minority and women-owned businesses on current and proposed contract opportunities.

MBOC's Brooklyn office will post copies of selected Dormitory Authority notices to bidders and requests for expressions of interest relating to project management, construction contracts, and professional service contracts. The organization will also send the Brooklyn office project plans and specifications that MBOC clients will be able to examine to the Brooklyn Entrepreneur Support and Training Center (the BEST Center), which was created by BEDC and is located in BEDC and MBOC's office suite at 175 Remsen St. in Brooklyn.
