Acadia Realty Trust announced that president Kenneth F. Bernstein has been elected by the board of trustees to the additional post of chief executive officer. Ross Dworman, the current chairman and chief executive officer, will remain as chairman of the board, continuing his role with regard to the company's business planning and strategic actions to enhance shareholder value.

The company also announced that Perry Kamerman, currently senior vice president and director of finance, was promoted to chief financial officer and Joseph Napolitano was promoted to senior vice president and director of retail management.

Bernstein has worked on Acadia's management team for the past ten years. In his new position, he will assume greater leadership responsibility for the management of the company, focusing on implementing its business plan. Bernstein plans to pay particular attention to closing the gap between the company's net asset value and its share price.

Cushman & Wakefield Inc. announced that Joseph A. Cabrera has joined the company as an executive director.

Cabrera brings 15 years of professional brokerage experience to the company, as well as a list of clients, including Bertelsmann, Citigroup, DraftWorldwide, Harcourt, Inc., and Reuters, Inc. Cabrera was formerly an executive managing director with Insignia/ESG in New York City, where he completed more than 20 million square feet of leasing transactions in 100 cities during his career. Prior to working with Insignia/ESG, Cabrera was northeast regional president of The Galbreath Company.

In 1998, he shared the Real Estate Board of New York Robert T. Lawrence Deal of the Year Award for co-brokering the Reuters 3 Time Square consolidation deal with Bruce Mosler and Joseph Simone, of Tishman Realty. The 855,000-square-foot Reuters deal was one of the largest transactions in New York City and the nation that year. Most recently, Cabrera completed a 120,000-square-foot transaction at 919 Third Ave. for DraftWorldwide's New York corporate office and consulted on the 130,000-square-foot relocation of the company's Chicago office.

Cabrera received a B.A. from Columbia University in 1982, and is also an attorney. He was an All-Ivy running back for Columbia from 1979 to 1981.

Robert Pappas has been named operations manager for the New York office of Carlson.

In his new position, Pappas will oversee and direct all program management and construction project management, provide problem-solving support and direction for project teams, and work with the general manger to develop long-term strategic plans.

Pappas is a registered architect with more than 20 years of experience in the design and construction of mission-critical facilities. He has managed a diverse portfolio of projects ranging in value from $5 million to $120 million, including web hosting data centers, telco switch sites, co-location facilities, and POP sites. For the financial services industry, he has managed numerous multi-site regional and national retail rollouts.

Pappas earned a B.S. in architecture from the New York Institute of Technology. He is a member of the American Institute of Architects.

David Workman has joined Brown Harris Stevens as the firm's executive director of the commercial services division, announced Arthur W. Zeckendorf and Kent M. Swig, cochairmen of Brown Harris Stevens.

Prior to joining Brown Harris Stevens, Workman was senior vice president for CB Richard Ellis, Inc., Koll Real Estate, and Marcus & Millichap where he represented some of the nation's major corporations in the entertainment, media, financial, and professional services industries, providing leasing, investment, and acquisition advisory services. With previous Wall Street and Big Five accounting experience, Workman has combined his financial and analytic backgrounds to serve such clients as NEC America, Metromedia, The New York Design Center, and Pace University, among many others.

Workman graduated from Brandeis University in 1983 with a bachelor of arts in economics. He has been active in the Young Men and Women's Real Estate Association, and The New York University's Real Estate School of Continuing Education.

Meringoff Properties announced the appointment of Joshua D. Gleiber as senior vice president of the firm.

The firm of Brennan Beer Gorman/Architects and Brennan Beer Gorman Monk/Interiors announced, the promotions of David Hawthorne and Marion Fernandez to senior associates, of Frank Bonura and Roberto Estorque to associates, and of Marilyn Reid to associate.

Since joining the firm in May of 1998, Hawthorne has served as the project manager on the Secaucus Transfer Station in Secaucus, N.J. At the same time, he has contributed to the management of New York City Transit subway station rehabilitation projects. Before joining BBG, Hawthorne worked with LDA Architects, HOK Architects, ED2 Architects, getting involved with such projects as the SF0 BART Station, the Yerba Buena Gardens Children's Center, and the San Francisco Asian Art Museum. A registered architect in New York, New Jersey, and California, he holds a bachelor's degree in environmental design and a master's degree in architecture from Texas A & M University.
