Business Group honors C&W's Arthur Mirante II

Cushman & Wakefield president and CEO Arthur J. Mirante II was honored with the Tribute to Leadership in Business award by the New York Business Group on Health at a reception at the Union League Club in New York City. The NYBGH also honored Spencer Foreman, M.D., president of Montefiore Medical Center in the Bronx, with its Tribute to Leadership in Health Care award.

"Arthur's leadership, business acumen, and commitment to the New York community has greatly enhanced the New York Business Group on Health, as well as many other civic organizations," said William Shanahan, chairman of the NYBGH and vice president of human resources at TIAA-CREF.

Past honorees of the NYBGH award include Eugene McGrath, CEO of Con Edison, John Biggs, chairman, president, and CEO of TIAA-CREF, Frederick Salerno, vice chairman and CFO of Verizon, and Alair Townsend, publisher of Crain's New York Business.

This past year, Cushman & Wakefield provided pro bono real estate expertise to the NYBGH in the negotiations for a new lease arrangement with the organization's current landlord. Shawna Menifee, of C&W's midtown Manhattan office, handled the transaction.

The awards ceremony was attended by numerous business and health care community leaders, including Guardian Life CEO Joseph Sargent, Bob Stelben, treasurer of Con Edison, Ken Raske, president of the Greater New York Hospitals Association, and James Tallon, president of the United Hospital Fund.

Mirante was named president and CEO of Cushman & Wakefield in 1984 and has since guided the dramatic transformation of the 84-year-old firm from a regional brokerage company into a global multi-service firm. Mirante's vision for the firm has been far reaching, resulting in a number of significant professional accomplishments. Mirante most recently guided Cushman & Wakefield in its merger with the Cushman Realty Corporation. Over the last year, he also spearheaded the strategic restructuring of C&W, including the creation of C&W's advisory group.

Mirante is an active member of the community, serving on the boards of a number of not-for-profit organizations and cultural institutions, including The United Way of New York City, the Alvin Ailey Dance Company, the National Jewish Center for Immunology and Respiratory Medicine, the Nassau County Fine Art Museum, and the Realty Foundation of New York, Inc.
