Phipps Houses honors three for city roles

Real Estate Weekly, Jan 16, 2002

The Phipps Houses recently honored congressman Charles B. Rangel, Kathryn S. Wylde, president and CEO of the New York City Partnership and Chamber of Commerce, and Robert D. Feller, president and CEO of GMAC Commercial Mortgage Corporation, for the vital role their contributions to the city.

The prestigious Community Builder Awards, presented each year by Phipps Houses, take on special significance in light of the monumental rebuilding effort to be undertaken in lower Manhattan.

"As our City faces the greatest rebuilding project in its history," said Adam Weinstein, president and CEO of Phipps Houses and chairman of the Phipps Community Development Corporation, "we look to our government, civic, and business leaders for strength and vision. Throughout their long and illustrious careers, our three honorees have devoted themselves to building New York City neighborhoods -- making our communities strong, viable, safe, and livable -- and improving the quality of life for all New Yorkers. These three distinguished New Yorkers will, no doubt, be on the front lines again. We salute them for past contributions, and thank them for taking on the tough and crucial job that lies ahead."

This year's gala awards ceremony was held at Cipriani 42nd Street and hosted by Jane Hanson, of News Channel 4. The proceeds from the event, which exceed $600,000, will go to support the educational, social, and employment-directed programs sponsored by the Phipps Community Development Corporation.
