Greenthal Mngmt. develops emergency plan
Real Estate Weekly, Jan 16, 2002
Charles H. Greenthal Management Corp. announced that in light of recent events the company has developed a comprehensive emergency response plan to address both citywide and building specific emergencies. Through strategic planning, systemic duplication, personnel coordination, and ongoing rehearsals, Charles H. Greenthal Management Corp. will be able to maintain optimal safety conditions and necessary services for its buildings' commercial and residential tenants during the course of an emergency situation.
"One of the lessons of Sept. 11 was that New York City's years of planning and practice for catastrophic events significantly contributed to the outstanding crisis management of the Twin Towers tragedy, including the rescue of human life, expeditious restoration of services, and a return to normalcy," said Jonathan West, president of Charles H. Greenthal Management Corp.
The nucleus of the emergency response plan is the emergency response team, comprising superintendents of Greenthal buildings throughout the city. Drawing on their first hand knowledge of the company's buildings and neighborhoods, the members of the team are uniquely qualified to participate in both the development and implementation of the emergency response plan. Through pooling their skills and resources, the superintendents will be able to address any building emergency in a timely fashion.
The plan provides for the designation of team leaders, division of buildings by area (north, south, east and west), the establishment of strategically placed staging locations in different parts of the city, and a pool of emergency mechanics and contractors, i.e. plumbers, electricians, etc., who agree to respond when regular building vendors cannot. The plan also provides for the creation of comprehensive building profiles that will be stored both on-site and in each of the designated staging locations.
Building profiles will include valve charts for every Greenthal managed building, schematic drawings for every building, items that are specific to each building, current lists of service providers and alternates, current list of all managing agents and their telephone numbers, current list of all building employees, current lists of all residents, including children and pets, current list of elderly, handicapped, and residents needing special assistance, list of any doctors, dentists, firemen, policemen, emergency medical technicians, etc. who reside in the building, telephone numbers for the local Red Cross, fire department, police precinct, and local hospital.
