Real Estate Weekly, Feb 5, 2003
As part of an $8 billion public school construction program funded by the State of New Jersey and the New Jersey Economic Development Authority (NJEDA), the Freehold office of Cosentini Information Technologies (CIT), a division of international engineering consultant Cosentini Associates, Inc., has been awarded six contracts for the engineering of Information Technologies (IT) systems in six new public school buildings to be located throughout the state, announces Douglas C. Mass, P.E., president of Cosentini.
Schools located in Abbot School Districts will be overseen by the New Jersey EDA and will receive full funding from the state. Four of the schools included in this group are Martin Luther King Jr. Elementary, Trenton; Mott Elementary, Trenton; Neptune High School, Neptune; and Elizabeth PS #31, Elizabeth.
The project at Martin Luther King Jr. Elementary entails the installation of infrastructure network cabling and wireless systems throughout a 114,000-SF facility. Cosentini Information Technologies (CIT) will also be responsible for the design of tech spaces and security systems for the school. Moreover, CIT is the engineering consultant for the development of the audio-visual components of a television studio at Martin Luther King Jr. Elementary, which will include the design of a control room, production area, lighting grid and editing room.
Another Abbot school, Neptune High School, is also receiving a television studio, but one with professional quality equipment that may be used by the school and local community for such purposes as cable access broadcasting.
In addition to the NJEDA-supervised school projects, CIT is engineering and designing audio-visual, telecommunications, LAN/Wireless and security systems for a new 400,000-SF high tech high school in Montgomery Township High School, the state's leading public school district for academic achievement.
In another technology rich high school, Ocean City Public School, CIT is designing all of the technology, including a state-of-the-art auditorium. In addition, CIT will be designing a new private fiber optic network that will network all of the school buildings together in Ocean City, NJ. "These are very important projects for our firm," says Mass.
