4 new Wal-Marts built by B.R. Fries

Real Estate Weekly, Feb 19, 2003

B.R. Fries & Associates reports that it has completed on schedule the construction of Wal-Mart stores in East Setauket and Islandia, Long Island. The stores had their grand openings Jan. 22.

The multi-million dollar projects, the first the Manhattan-based contractor has done for Wal-Mart, included construction of the freestanding stores and adjacent parking areas.

The East Setauket store, on Nesconset Highway (Route 347), occupies 132,000 SF. Fries is also constructing a 630-stall parking lot and is clearing and landscaping the 11-1/2 acre site

The 128,000-SF Islandia Wal-Mart, on Veterans Memorial Highway, is in the existing Islandia Center. The Wal-Mart replaces two stores that had been attached to the shopping center but were demolished. Fries also prepared a parking area with 570 stalls.

Barry Fries, CEO of B.R. Fries & Associates, said both fast-tracked jobs remained on schedule despite the winter storms of the past several weeks. Fries recently completed other retail construction projects on Long Island, including renovations of Pathmark stores in Baldwin, Islip and Jericho. The firm recently began construction of a Home Depot in Shirley.
