City sells Bronx lot

Real Estate Weekly, March 2, 2005

New York City Economic Corporation President Andrew M. Alper announced the sale of a 33,200 s/f parcel of vacant city-owned property in the Bronx, to the Mount Hope Community Center, a not-for-profit corporation affiliated with the Mount Hope Housing Company.

Mount Hope Community Center plans to construct a building to house a computer training and job counseling center, conference facilities, meeting rooms, recreational facilities and administrative offices.

The Mayor's office, Borough President Adolfo Carrion Jr. and Councilmember Maria Baez allocated $7,655,000 in City capital funds to the project.

"It is a great day when the City, local elected officials and a community organization work together to provide much needed community facilities and services for under-served neighborhoods, and create 57 new jobs," said EDC President Alper.

The site consists of four vacant lots located on a block bounded by Townsend and Walton Avenues, East 175th Street and East 176th Street in the Mr. Hope section of the Bronx.

The sale price for the property was $436,500. Construction is expected to begin this summer.
