NCI dives into pool project

Real Estate Weekly, March 26, 2008

Norman Rijo, president, announced that NCI Construction, Inc. will serve as construction manager for the new Community Aquatics Center expansion project at the Prospect Park Branch of the YMCA of Greater New York, located at 330 8th Street in Brooklyn.

The work includes the construction of a new pool, improved locker rooms and a meeting space and a catering facility. The three-floor project, comprising of approximately 30,000 s/f, will commence with the construction of the new pool to replace an existing pool originally opened in 1927.

The Aquatics Center will feature six 75 foot lanes and increased accommodations for members with disabilities. With NCI's expansion of the facility's capacity, more aquatics programs can be created to serve over a thousand local school children with free swimming lessons and over 300 adults.

NCI's work will involve repairing and upgrading the facility as part of the YMCA's long-term plans for the Aquatics Center. Residents believe that the revitalization of the Prospect Park Branch will strengthen its critical role as a community anchor by dramatically expanding free and low-cost aquatics programs for community members of all ages.

The Aquatics Center, a projected $5.7 million investment, will be constructed on what is now a parking lot.
