MASterwork awards granted

The Municipal Art Society of New York (MAS) has announced recipients of the 2nd annual MASterwork Awards. The awards, which honor excellence in design in New York City's built environment for projects completed in 2001 are given in four categories - new building, new or restored public art work, commercial restoration project and urban design or planning concept - that reflect areas of explicit MAS involvement. The MASterwork Awards are co-sponsored by GVA Williams, a leading provider of real estate services.

Award recipients were:

* Best New Building: The Museum of American Folk Art. The architects were Tod Williams Billie Tsien Architects

* Best New Public Art: The Terminal 4 Art Program at JFK - Travelogues, The Curtain Wall, Walking New York. The artists were Diller & Scofidio, Harry Roseman, Deborah Masters

* Best Commercial Restoration: Prada New York Epicenter. The architects were Office of Metropolitan Architecture. The designer was Architecture Research Office. The architect of record and structural engineers was Leslie Robertson and Associates and Structural Engineers: (LERA)

* Best Planning and Urban Design Concept: NYC2012, Daniel L. Doctoroff, president; Jay L. Kriegel, executive director; Alexander Garvin, director of planning

* Planning and Urban Design: NYC2010
