MANAR Courses

March 6, 13, 20 - The Manhattan Association of REALTORS[R] and the NYS Commercial Association of REALTORS[R] are offering three introductory level continuing education courses for the residential broker who wishes to learn the basics of Commercial Real Estate. Each course provides 7.5 hours of CE Credit and may be taken individually or as a series. The courses are March 6 - Introduction to Commercial Real Estate Tools of the Trade; March 13 - Introduction to Commercial & Investment Real Estate: Concepts and Terms and March 20 Commercial Calculations The classes will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the offices of Manhattan Mortgage, 555 Madison Ave. (at 56th Street), 14th floor. Tuition for REALTOR[R] members is $100 for one day, $175 for two days and $225 for all three days. Tuition for nonmembers is $135, $250 and $300, respectively. The instructor is Edward S. Smith Jr. who has over 25 years experience in Commercial and Investment Real Estate Brokerage. ABO Lunch

March 13 -- The Associated Builders and Owners of Greater New York will hold its monthly luncheon from noon to 2 p.m. James Gill, chairman of Battery Park City Authority, will be the featured speaker at the event. The luncheon will take place at the National Arts Club, at 15 Gramercy Park South. Members: $60 per person. Non-members: $75 per person. Women in Housing & Finance Seminar

March 13 - Amanda Burden, the chair of the New York City Planning Commission and director of the Department of City Planning, will discuss the current Strategic Plan of the Department of City Planning at a Women in Housing & Finance seminar from 5:30 to 8 p.m. at Starks Veranda Restaurant at 319 Broadway (at Thomas Street) Downtown Manhattan. There will be a networking hour from 5:30 to 6:45 p.m. and the program will start at 6:45 p.m. The fee for members is $20 and non member is $25. UJA-Federation Lunch

March 13 - UJA-Federation of New York's Young Real Estate Group (REX) of the Real Estate & Allied Trades Division will honor Andrew S. Fawer, managing director of CIBC World Markets Corporation's Real Estate Securitization and Finance Group, at its annual luncheon at The Pierre, Fifth Avenue and 61st Street. The guest speaker will be His Excellency, Daniel Ayalon, Israeli Ambassador to the United States. The luncheon begins at 11:30 a.m. Cost of the luncheon is $145. NRC Panel

March 18 - The National Realty Club will hold a panel on "Investing in the Boroughs" at noon at the Williams Club, 24 East 39th St. Panel members are Richard Wald, president of Emigrant Funding; Frank Gooden, principal of First Merchants, Inc. of Park Slope and Timothy King, executive managing director of Massey Knakal's new Brooklyn office. Appraisal Institute Course

March 11 to Apr. 15 -- The Long Island Chapter of the Appraisal Institute will offer a continuing education course, entitled "Appraisal Procedures," on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 6 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. The course will review the valuation process and discuss appraisal mathematics, cost approach, and income capitalization approach. The classes will take place at the C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University, at 720 Northern Boulevard in Brookville, N.Y. Tuition: $400 per person. Building Congress Breakfast
