Once a client, now he's Coo
Real Estate Weekly, March 19, 2003
Tony Marano has had a long association with Cushman & Wakefield as a client. Now as chief operating officer of the U.S., he is one of its most important executives.
"Tony Marano is a dynamic real estate and business professional, and he has brought expertise, energy and enthusiasm to his new position," said Cushman & Wakefield president of U.S. operations Bruce Mosler. "He is allowing me to concentrate further on developing strategic plans that keep C&W on the cutting edge of client service, while assuming additional responsibilities within the firm."
One of the most respected real estate executives in the nation, Marano is responsible for day to day brokerage operations, financial management, personnel, budgets and capital investment.
Prior to joining C&W, Marano was vice president of business services at Lucent, with the company's real estate functions among several units reporting to him. Prior to that, he was real estate vice president at Lucent. He was responsible for asset management, property management, engineering and real estate dispositions. He oversaw a 70 million-SF portfolio, and had executive responsibility for Lucent's global real estate holdings.
"My experience at Lucent was as a client so I understand where Corporate America is coming from," Marano said. Cushman & Wakefield's client driven culture attracted him to the firm.
"I have always admired the professionalism, the focus on the client, and the integrity of the C&W people," he said.
"They deliver on what they say they will do. I enjoyed my corporate real estate career and am now with the best real estate firm."
Now that he is at Cushman & Wakefield, he is looking forward to the challenge of a dynamic marketplace. "Our goal is to be the number one provider of real estate services locally, nationally and globally," he said.
Being part of a global organization is not new for Marano. He was real estate vice president for AT&T prior to the spin-off of Lucent Technologies from AT&T. He was responsible for the management of AT&T's 160 million-SF worldwide portfolio.
Marano was named the 1999 Corporate Real Estate Executive of the Year by Commercia1 Property News. During his career, he has been very active with real estate organizations, including the International Development Research Council (IDRC), now known as CoreNet.
Active in the community, Marano served on the board of directors of the Jacksonville Library Foundation, the St. John's Epilepsy Foundation and the Gator Bowl Association. He is active with the Institute for Children With Cancer and Blood Disorders, and has also worked with the Cystic-Fibrosis-New Jersey Chapter, the Wayne Police Athletic League and the Financial Executives Association.
Marano received a B.A. from Rutgers University and an M.B.A. from Fairleigh Dickinson. In addition, he attended Duke University's Fuqua School of Business and the London School of Economics.
