Don't Lien on Us, try www.nyclink.org/finance. The first notice of properties that may be included in New York City's next tax lien sale is now available.

It was published earlier this week and is expected to soon appear on the web site. Typically, there are properties, such as foreign embassies or city owned housing, that will never be included in the sale but have paperwork problems.

Owners have at least another month to pay off the liens or enter into a payoff schedule. There will be at least another newspaper publication of the list before these liens are sold in bulk near the end of this tax year in June. At that time, a five percent surcharge is added to the outstanding amount due that usually includes property taxes, water bills and other city charges.
