Abraham Joshua Heschel School

Real Estate Weekly, April 5, 2000 by Lois Weiss

A school building and adjacent warehouse that Harry Macklowe once hoped to develop into a luxury high rise have been sold to the Abraham Joshua Heschel School for a total of $20 million at the end of January, city records show.

The buildings, on the corner of West 61st Street and West End Avenue, are among the many nondescript holdings Macklowe accumulated all over the city, waiting for the market to catch up to the sites. In this case, it appears a user for the school building caught up to Macklowe.

The developer didn't return a call for comment and spokespeople for the Heschel School say a "major" announcement will be forthcoming in the next month. The school is currently located at 270 West 89th Street where it serves nursery through 8th grade.
