Starlight fundraiser honors Steven Green and Nancy Peck
Real Estate Weekly, April 5, 2000
With thousands of sparkling stars shimmering in the room, giving, caring, and fun were the overriding themes at the immensely successful 15th anniversary gala benefiting the Starlight Children's Foundation. Starlight, an organization which brightens the lives of seriously ill children, held its celebration on March 2. It was a sold-out event honoring real estate titans Stephen L. Green and Nancy Peck.
The most successful event to date, over 1,250 individuals were in attendance. Moreover, the evening raised a staggering $1.3 million for the benefit of Starlight. Among the attendees were countless real estate, sports, entertainment and business luminaries - more than any previous year - all eager to cheer on the honorees and show their support for this incredible organization.
Jeffrey Gural, chairman of Newmark & Co. Real Estate and president of the NY Starlight Foundation, presented Mr. Green and Ms. Peck with their awards. "We are proud to honor Stephen and Nancy for over a decade of support and work on behalf of the Starlight Foundation," said Gural. "Not only are they highly valued within the business world, but they embody a profound philanthropic scope that is to be emulated and admired."
As a member of the real estate world, Gural proudly noted that Steve and Nancy were the first members of the real estate community to be honored by Starlight and that thanks to their many friends, this year's event broke all previous fundraising records for the Foundation.
Together, Mr. Green and Ms. Peck emerged as the real estate industry's pioneering force in recognizing and fulfilling the potential of well located older buildings with architectural integrity.
Speaking for herself and Mr. Green, Ms. Peck said, "I am so honored to be recognized by this outstanding organization and have the support of so many of my friends, peers and associates in helping Starlight continue its very important work."
During its 15-year history, the Starlight Children's Foundation has received a wide range of corporate and celebrity support from personalities including Sarah Michelle Gellar, Christina Ricci, Melissa Joan Hart and Paul Simon, just to name a few.
The Starlight Children's Foundation is an international non-profit organization dedicated to brightening the lives of critically, chronically and terminally ill children, ages 4-18. Founded in 1983 by actress Emma Samms and film executive Peter Samuelson, Starlight grants special wishes, provides entertainment in hospital pediatric wards, awards grants directly to hospitals and offers outpatient activities for children and their families.
