Demolition begins for Stamford tower
Real Estate Weekly, August 16, 2000
The construction of Stamford's tallest office tower took another big step forward today with the vacating of 24 Richmond Hill Ave., a nine-story office building that will be demolished to make way for Connecticut Place, a 23-story, 574,000 sf office tower. Demolition of the existing building is scheduled to begin August 1.
"This is an exciting day that marks the beginning of a new era of world-class office space in downtown Stamford," said David J. Friedman, northeast regional vice president of Louis Dreyfus Property Group, the developer of Connecticut Place. Since plans for the building were approved late last year, extensive site work has been done on the surrounding five-acre property including the demolition of an adjacent warehouse and gas station.
Stamford mayor Dannel P. Malloy said, "We look forward to the construction of this exciting and important project. Connecticut Place will solidify Stamford's reputation as one of the nation's premier business locations. It will also serve as a catalyst for the rebirth of the Mill River Corridor."
The development of Connecticut Place signals the start of an ambitious plan to redevelop Stamford's Mill River Corridor that calls for a mix of commercial and residential development as well as the creation of parkland and open space along the Mill River.
