Sales center open at 43 West 64
Real Estate Weekly, May 14, 2003
As the transformation of the luxury condominium residences of 43 West 64 advances, the development by The Athena Group has just opened an on-site sales center and model apartment. The unit, a spacious one-bedroom residence on the building's second floor, was designed by renowned New York architect and interior designer, Campion Platt, and showcases the modern elegance and loft-like ambiance that the building will offer its residents when it debuts this Fall.
Platt, a co-developer of such hotspots as New York's Mercer Hotel and MercBar, and Los Angeles' Chateau Marmont, has also worked with residential clients from Meg Ryan to Al Pacino to Conan O'Brien. For this 1,500-SF model unit, he is creating a distinctively modern, urban ambiance featuring contemporary furnishings (including selections from his recently/lunched furniture line, CAMPION) and a 'loft-like' feel which capitalizes on the building's extraordinary ceiling heights.
"Through my design, I want to try to illustrate the kind of lifestyle that 43 West 64 embodies," says Platt. "I've created a 'downtown' palette with neutrals, rich dark woods and soft metal finishes with a distinct 'uptown' sophistication.
The high coffered ceilings, reminiscent of an industrial era, are tempered with warm colors and natural finishes, while the slipcover materials and art evoke a relaxed sense of summer."
Originally built in 1898 as a warehouse, the pre-war 43 West 64 offers a spaciousness and standard of luxury not readily found on the Upper West Side. Sales of the building's units have been growing steadily since they were offered to buyers last summer with over one-third of the units already sold.
Combining Old World charm with incredibly spacious loft layouts, the building will feature 32 luxury residences varying in size from approximately 1,585 to 6,151 SF and from one to six bedrooms. Four duplex penthouses are being added, with large terraces with commanding views of Lincoln Center and Central Park.
The building's many amenities include a private interior drive-thru and valet parking, 24-hour doorman and concierge, direct elevator access to each residence, hardwood floors throughout, sound-attenuated windows and a landscaped interior courtyard which allows an unusual amount of light into the building's interior spaces. Each residence features a spacious, loft-like living room with exposed brick walls, barrel-vaulted ceilings, and an open galley kitchen featuring Viking appliances and Poggen Pohl cabinetry, and broadband Internet capabilities.
Located in the epicenter of Manhattan's West side, 43 West 64 is just steps away from some of New York's most valuable assets including Central Park, Lincoln Center and Carnegie Hall, not to mention myriad dining, shopping and entertainment possibilities.
The sales center will be open on weekends from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. and by appointment during the week. 43 West 64 is being developed by The Athena Group LLC in conjunction with Brickman Liberty Owners, LLC.
