Housing inspectors to wear uniforms
Real Estate Weekly, May 22, 2002
In an effort to increase public confidence and create uniformity among the ranks, New York City Department of Housing Preservation and Development Commissioner Jerilyn Perine announced that uniforms would be issued to all of HPD's Code Enforcement Inspectors, Supervising Inspectors and Apprentices.
The inspectors and apprentices are responsible for inspecting privately-owned buildings throughout Manhattan, Brooklyn, the Bronx, Queens and Staten Island to ensure compliance with the city's Housing Maintenance Code.
"Our Inspectors and Apprentices perform an important service for the agency and the public," said Commissioner Perine. "In many cases, they are the only contact tenants in privately-owned buildings have with the agency. These uniforms will give tenants added peace of mind when they open their doors to allow the inspectors inside their homes."
Uniforms for Inspectors and Apprentices include black trousers with stitched front and back creases, short and long sleeve gray shirts with shoulder epaulets and military creases, gray neckties, a black gamison belt, and a black baseball cap with "HPD Code Enforcement" embroidered in gold letters. Supervising Inspectors will wear white shirts as part of their uniforms. Black windbreakers and bomber jackets are available for cooler weather.
