Real Estate Weekly, May 21, 2003
AvalonBay Communities, Inc., the Alexandria, VA.- based developer with a regional office in Woodbridge, has made a significant donation to the Bergen County chapter of Habitat for Humanity to help the charitable organization build new homes for local families in need.
The donation, one of 20 that are being made to charities nationwide from the developer's "Spirit of Caring Fund," Will he1p offset costs associated with ongoing construction efforts in East Rutherford.
"At AvalonBat, we take our corporate core Value of 'A Spirit of Caring' very seriously," notes Ron Ladell, vice president of development for AvalonBay's New Jersey region.
"One of our goals as a company is to give back to the communities in which we do business. Habitat for Humanity is a wonderful organization that contributes greatly to the areas in which it operates. We are proud to support such a worthy cause."
AvalonBay's donation will go into a general fund appropriated for Habitat's current project of converting a single-family home into a two-family home in East Rutherford, according to David J. Roberts III, the chapter's executive director. Both families, current Bergen County residents, have already been selected and are scheduled to move in sometime in June.
"Our mission is to build affordable housing in Bergen County and we are making progress on that issue, Roberts points out.
