Vollmer Associates to oversee 50th St. subway rehab project

Real Estate Weekly, May 21, 2003

Vollmer Associates has been selected by New York City Transit to oversee the rehabilitation of the IND line subway station at 50 Street and Eighth Ave.

The project includes the re-opening of existing street entrances and stairs to improve security and accessibility, new signage and finishes throughout the station, and the re-integration of the station design with the privately developed portions of the adjoining Worldwide Plaza.

Vollmer also will investigate options for ADA access to the northbound side of the station, including the installation of elevators. The southbound station was made fully accessible in 1989.

Completion of the project is scheduled for 2009, at a construction cost of $25.7 million.
