Real Estate Weekly, May 26, 2004
The ACE awarded 50 four-year scholarships--earlier this month totaling more than $75,000 in 2004--to deserving graduates of this year's program.
The scholarships were announced at ACE's (architects, constructors, engineers) Mentor Program annual luncheon on May 6th at the Union League Club benefiting the Inner-City Scholarship Fund. The program is dedicated to providing career direction to young people.
David Jendras from Garden City High School, the FEMA Scholarship recipient, and Lauren Pacheco from East Rockaway High School, the McGraw-Hill recipient, received the top prizes of $5,000.
The Mel Feinstein Scholarship went to Katina Kremelberg from Kellenberg Memorial High School. The prize, presented by Anita Feinstein, honors the memory of her husband, Mel Feinstein, former Manager of Administration, Engineering and Construction on Randall's Island for MTA Bridges and Tunnels.
The Rino M. "Ray" Monti Scholarship went to Antonio Pellegino from Cardinal Spellman High School. Ed Rytter presented the prize in memory of Ray Monti, an ACE founder who worked for most of his career for the Port Authority of New York & New Jersey.
Richard T. Anderson, president of the New York Building Congress, presented a $4,000 scholarship to Zhuo Quan Li from Lafayette High School. This scholarship is presented in connection with the George A. Fox public service award.
Dionisio Cortes received the International Masonry Institute's $4,000 scholarship.
The scholarship was presented by Joan Calambokidis, president of IMI.
Honorees at the luncheon included three of New York City's leaders representing both the public and private sectors: David A. Adelhardt, president, Adelhardt Construction Corporation; William H. Goldstein, president and CEO, New York City School Construction Authority; and Robert A. Rubin, partner, Postner & Rubin.
