Newmark New Spectrum announces promotions

Rising Manhattan retail brokers Paul Berkman, Gregg A. Gropper, Stu Morden, Craig N. Slosberg and Amira Yunis were promoted to the position of managing director in an announcement made by Jeffrey D. Roseman, executive vice president of Newmark New Spectrum.

"Newmark New Spectrum had one of its strongest years ever in 2002, and we feel that we have now become the dominant firm in the retail leasing industry. The individuals who were promoted have all contributed greatly to our growth, and I am exceptionally proud of their accomplishments."

Berkman, a former owner/operator of a clothing chain, possesses particular expertise in the creation of a store's physical location, including its design and construction. He has successfully assisted Grand Central Optical, Ferrarais, International Cutlery and John Allenis Menis Salon as leasing agent for the Roosevelt and Park Central hotels. He serves as the retail agent at 1515 Broadway, 60 Spring St., 622 Broadway and 1775 Broadway, where he recently completed leases to Daffy's and Fleet Bank. He is a member of the Real Estate Board of New York (REBNY) and the International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC).

Gropper, a highly experienced tenant representative, currently serves as the retail leasing agent for Chelsea Market and 500 Fifth Ave., among other locations. He has completed transactions on behalf of a diverse group of retailers, including New York Hospital, Union Pacific restaurant, HSBC, Scoop, Jennifer Convertibles and Django restaurant, and has served as the exclusive agent for Solstice and Cafe Europa in the New York area. He holds a bachelor of science degree from the University of Arizona, and is a member of REBNY and ICSC.

Morden, a recipient of REBNY's "Creative Retail Deal of the Year" award for his work on Whole Foods' flagship store installation at 250 Seventh Ave., serves clients throughout Manhattan and is well known for his accomplishments on the Upper West Side. As a tenant and owner representative, he has completed deals with Liberty House, Nussbaum & Wu Bakery, West End Cafe, Jeffrey Stein Salons, Duane Reade and Gabriellais restau rant, among others. He is the leasing agent for Barnard College and several Adam Katz properties. Morden earned a bachelor of arts degree from Hunter College, and is a member of REBNY and ICSC.

Slosberg has served both tenants and owners in more than 300 transactions during the past decade. His clients include CVS Pharmacy, Amish Market, Key Food Supermarket, U.S. General Services Administration, Equinox Fitness Club's, Bloomie World Spa and numerous banks. He serves on a team that handles all retail leasing for S.L. Green Properties at 6 Times Square, as well as 1515 Broadway, 832 Broadway, 830 Broadway, 1372 Broadway and 420 Lexington Ave. In addition, he is the leasing agent for the Jack Parker Corporation! Moinian Groupis new 35,000-SF, three-story commercial development at 770 Eighth Ave., and is on a retail team for Trump Place. A graduate of SUNY Oswego with a bachelor of science 'degree in business administration, Slosberg is a member of REBNY (a longstanding member of its Stores Committee) and ICSC.

Yunis, who is well-versed in all facets of retail real estate including investment sales, has represented many of Manhattanis high-profile property owners such as New York University, Advance Real Estate Group, Archon Group, S.L. Green, Rudin Management and Emmes. As a tenant representative, she works with such clients as Aldo Shoes, New York Sports Clubs, Coda Lounge, McDonaldis; Pret a Manger, Starbucks and H&R Block. Transaction highlights in the last year include the relocation of the Latin Quarter, the famous New York City nightclub, to the Radisson Lexington Hotel and the sale of the Zurich Depository Building on Long Island. Yunis attended Normandale College in Minnesota, and is a member of REBNY, ICSC and the Commercial Industrial Brokerage Society.
