Libeskind to address B'nai B'rith June 11

Daniel Libeskind, the architect who created the winning design for rebuilding the World Trade Center site, will speak at the B'nai B'rith Real Estate Unit luncheon on June 11 noon at the Cornell Club, 6 East 44"' St.

"The design and rebuilding of the World Trade Center site is without a doubt among the most historic and important projects ever undertaken," said Sam J. Jemal, cochair of the B'nai B'rith Real Estate Unit. "We look forward to this very personal presentation of Daniel Libeskind's unique vision for Downtown New York."

Libeskind is an international figure in architecture and urban design. He is well-known for introducing a new critical discourse into architecture and for his multidisciplinary approach. His practice extends from building major cultural institutions, including museums and concert halls, landscape and urban projects, to stage design, installations and exhibitions.

Born in Poland, Libeskind graduated from the Bronx High School of Science, and received his architectural degree at Cooper Union and a postgraduate degree at Essex University.

He has lived in Berlin and designed numerous buildings and landscape projects including The Jewish Museum Berlin, The Felix Nussbaum Haus in Osnabruck, Germany, and the Imperial War Museum North in Manchester.

Libeskind is presently designing and constructing The Spiral Extension to the Victoria & Albert Museum, London; the Jewish Museum in San Francisco, "Westside," an urban scale entertainment and shopping center in Brunnen, Switzerland; Maurice WohI Convention Center at Bar Ilan University, Tel Aviv; Atelier Weil in Mallorca; the Extension to the Denver Art Museum; a post-graduate center at the University of North London; and most recently the extension to the Royal Ontario Museum, Toronto.

Libeskind is professor at the Hoschschule fur Gestaltung, Karlsruhe, Germany, the Cret Chair at the University of Pennsylvania and the Frank 0. Gehry Chair at the University of Toronto. He is a member of the European Academy of Arts and Letters and has been a member of the Akademie der Kunst since 1990.

Among Libeskind's numerous awards are the Hiroshima Art Prize, the German Architecture Prize, the Goethe Medallion, the American Academy of Arts and Letters Award for Architecture and the Berlin Cultural Prize. He has honorary doctorates from Humboldt Universitat, Berlin, Essex University, England, University of Edinburgh, and DePaul University, Chicago.
