City's Arts & Business Council names Arthur J. Mirante, of Cushman & Wakefield, Volunteer of the Year

Real Estate Weekly, June 11, 2003

Cushman & Wakefield president and chief executive officer Arthur J. Mirante II will be named the Business Volunteer of the Year at the Arts & Business Council's 38th Annual Encore Awards luncheon. The award will be presented Wednesday, June 11 at Bridgewaters in the South Street Seaport.

Mirante will be honored for his work with the Alvin Ailey Dance Theatre in Manhattan. Largely through his efforts and those of Cushman & Wakefield, Alvin Ailey recently secured a new headquarters for its world famous dance ensemble.

Over the years, Mirante has contributed his time and volunteered on behalf of the following organizations: The United Way of New York City, the National Jewish Center for Immunology and Respiratory Medicine, the New York City Partnership and Chamber of Commerce, and the Realty Foundation of New York, Inc. He is also on the board of trustees of St. John's University.

In the past, Mirante has been honored by many community and cultural institutions, including Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, which named him Real Estate and Construction Council 2001 Gala Honoree.

Mirante was named president and chief executive officer of Cushman & Wakefield in 1984. He has since guided the dramatic transformation of the 86-year old firm from a regional brokerage company into a global multi-service real estate firm.

Speakers and presenters at the luncheon will include: Gary P. Steuer, president and chief executive officer of the Arts & Business Council; Pamela Kersey, senior vice president of corporate resources in marketing and communications, JPMorgan Chase and other business and arts leaders. Participants will include Kitty Carlisle Hart, Judith Daykin and Sharon Gersten.

JPMorgan Chase is sponsoring the event, with wine donated by Finger Lakes Wine Country. Grain 's New York Business is the media sponsor. Entertainment will be provided by celebrated jazz musician, Ben Allison.

Encore honorees are chosen by cultural leaders representing the business and arts sectors.
