DT UT Cafe opens at 41 Avenue B
Real Estate Weekly, June 18, 2003
Grubb & Ellis Company announced that it has represented DTSUT Cafd Lounge in leasing 2,200 SF of retail space at 41 Avenue B in the East Village.
Scott Vinett of Grubb & Ellis' New York midtown office represented DT*UT in securing space for the cafe/lounge's second location in the hip latenight entertainment district developing along Avenue B in Alphabet City. Following the success of the original DT.UT on the Upper East Side, owner Robert Stembach considered opening a second location downtown, but had difficulty finding the appropriate space.
"We evaluated several opportunities in the market," recalls Vinett, "but when we saw 41 Avenue B, we knew we had found the right space."
The new East Village location and its Upper East Side twin will now personify the cafe/lounge's name, as "DT*UT" stands for "Downtown/Uptown." Peter Braus of Sierra Realty represented the owner.
The new cafe/lounge will occupy the ground floor storefront space in one of several new apartment buildings that have emerged in the area over the past few years. Sternbach intends to replicate the open design and casual atmosphere of the uptown location, but the Avenue B concept boasts a 1,700-SF outdoor garden seating area.
