Reckson helping W. Orange become cow town

Real Estate Weekly, June 21, 2000

Reckson Associates Realty Corporation will be one of the participating sponsors of the International Cow Parade which will take place this spring and summer in West Orange, N.J., in New York City and in Stamford, Conn. The Cow Parade is a public art exhibition designed to celebrate the host community and to raise substantial funding for local charities. Each sponsor selects an artist to decorate a life-size, fiberglass cow which is placed throughout the town's streets, businesses and parks. Reckson Associates selected the renowned artist Robert Anderson of Cedar Grove, N.J to design their cow.

The first Cow Parade was held in Zurich, Switzerland in the summer of 1998. It was originally designed to drive traffic to retail centers and to showcase the talents of the local art community. It is estimated that 1 million visitors came to see the 800 cows while $3 million was raised for charity with the more than 340 cows throughout the city.

At the completion of the month-long exhibit during the 2000 Cow Parade, an auction will be held at Sotheby's with proceeds benefiting a charitable organization chosen by the sponsor.

The West Orange Cow Parade is the first time that a suburban community has ever participated in this event. In addition to Reckson Associates, other sponsors include Organon, the Kessler Institute, The Manor, Marriott Senior Living, the New Jersey Devils, Pathmark, PNC Bank, Waste Management, Waterford Group and the West Orange Library. On June 23, an all-day festival is planned in West Orange to unveil the town's 28 cows.
