Cushman & Wakefield underwrite golf outing
Real Estate Weekly, July 4, 2001
Cushman & Wakefield of New Jersey, Inc. has announced that the first-ever Tommy Hilfiger Corporate Foundation All-American Golf Classic has raised $1.8 million to refurbish The Fresh Air Fund's boys' camp, Camp Tommy. Cushman & Wakefield of New Jersey was the chritable event's title sponsor and event underwriter. Proceeds were raised through a celebrity golf tournament and live e auction held on June 11, 2001, at two private golf clubs in Northern New Jersey. Cushman & Wakefield, Inc. was the celebrity platinum sponsor.
Camp Tommy, one of five camps operated by The Fresh Air Fund, enables New York City underprivileged children to experience summer camp and walk away with a newfound sense of self-assurance. Funds from the Tommy Hilfiger Corporate Foundation have helped build new indoor facilities for Camp Tommy that provide educational programs such as computer training and visual arts.
"Today's youth are tomorrow's future leaders," said Tommy Hilfiger. "Camp Tommy was created to provide young kids with a wide range of cultural, educational and career-related activities to which they would otherwise have little or no exposure. This year's celebrity golf event has enabled us to reach our goal to help these kids achieve their dreams for the future."
According to Stanley B. Danzig, executive director of Cushman & Wakefield of New Jersey, "Tommy Hilfiger is one of the most charitable organizations we have ever had the pleasure of working with. Camp Tommy is a wonderful program, and the enthusiasm and generosity of the Hilfiger team is very inspiring. We are sincerely delighted to have supported this worthwhile cause."
The day-long event also included a kick-off brunch, a cocktail reception, musical performances by Darius Rucker of Hootie & the Blowfish and Edwin McCain, and a live auction, in which two game tickets to a New York Knicks basketball game and the opportunity for a child to act as ballboy/girl fetched $31,000.
Among the celebrities that participated in the All-American Golf Classic were: Rucker and McCain; Steven Van Zandt of "The Sopranos;" Muggsy Bogues and Charles Oakley of the Toronto Raptors; Allan Houston and Coach Jeff Van Gundy of the New York Knicks; and Tiki Barber, Michael Strahan and Coach Jim Fassel of the New York Giants.
Barber was a member of Cushman & Wakefield's foursome, which included Donald P. Eisen, executive managing director, New York Area; Jules Nissim, director; and Peter Sudler, president of The Sudler Companies. Their team finished fifth, with a final score of 49, among 50 participating teams, which paired celebrity guests with event sponsors.
