Real Estate Weekly, July 16, 2003
Associated Builders & Owners of the Greater New York (ABO), which sponsors the annual Harold J. Kalikow Memorial Camp Reception that helps raises funds to send children with disabilities to Camp Kalikow, named Joseph DePaolo, president and chief executive officer of Signature Bank, as this year's recipient of the Joseph and Andrew Giffuni Memorial Award.
Peter Kalikow, chairman of the Metropolitan Transit Authority and son of the late Harold Kalikow, hosted this year's annual event, which began more than 15 years ago in honor of his father, on Tuesday, June 24th at The 101 Club.
DePaolo is president, chief executive officer and a member of the board of directors of Signature Bank, a New York State chartered bank, and chairman of the board of Signature Securities Group, a United States retail broker-dealer. After only two years since its inception, Signature Bank assets exceed $1.35 billion, puffing it in the top five percent of all United States commercial banks based on total assets. Signature's parent company, Bank Hapoalim, one of the largest banks in the world, is the largest bank in Israel with $55 billion in total assets and $3.0 billion in a capital.
Camp Kalikow was created through the Boy Scouts of America as part of the group's Learning for Life (L.F.L) program. Located in Camp Alpine's Cub World, it offers long-term camping experiences for scouts with disabilities. Camp Kalikow is the first camp for handicapped youngsters in the United States. Two hundred and sixteen campers will be accommodated free of charge this season.
"ABO is proud to be associated with such a remarkable program, and to present this year's honoree," said Jerome Belson, President of ABO. "This year's event exceeded last year's contributions."
