The $7 million redevelopment of The Elevated Acre at 55 Water St. overlooking the East River marks the first park development in Lower Manhattan since 9/ 11 and will be completed in spring 2004. Following a year-long international design competition, the plan created by New York-based Rogers Marvel Architects and Ken Smith Landscape Architect was chosen for the revitalized park.

The design competition was held by the Municipal Art Society. From left to right--Madeline Wils, Community Board 1; Carl Weisbrod, Downtown Alliance; Frank Sanchis, Municipal Arts Society; Amy Freitag, Deputy Commissioner, Department of Parks & Recreation; Ed Kulik and Harry Bridgwood of the New Water Street Corporation; and Roxanne Dodddes from Manhattan Borough President Virginia Fields' office.
