Kushner gets green light to move forward with East Brunswick, N.J., rental project
Real Estate Weekly, July 31, 2002
Kushner Companies has received approval to develop Horizons at East Brunswick, Middlesex County's newest upscale active adult rental community in East Brunswick, N.J., announced Jeffrey Freireich, Kushner Companies' vice chairman and managing partner. Situated on 10 acres with frontage on Rues Lane, Cranbury Road and New Brunswick Avenue, this luxury, four-story apartment building will include 160 one- and two-bedroom homes for residents age 55 and over.
"The community will provide a new option for empty nesters who want to enjoy a more carefree lifestyle but remain in the region," noted Freireich.
East Brunswick is a vital township in the heart of Middlesex County, offering easy access to a wealth of recreation, shopping and dining. Within this context, Horizons at East Brunswick occupies a prime setting for active adult housing, within walking distance of the township Senior Center and Municipal Complex, the public library and neighborhood retail.
Horizons at East Brunswick will feature spacious apartments with balconies, full kitchens, formal dining rooms, dens, washer/dryers, card-access security and basement storage. The property also will include state-of-the-art communications and computer hook-ups for each apartment to provide flexibility and convenience for this computer-savvy generation now reaching retirement age.
Kushner Companies' goal is to provide true luxury living with facilities that reflect the interests and desires of today's aging Baby Boomers. The apartments will be beautifully appointed, complemented by upscale amenities, including a community room, fitness center, card and billiards room. The property will also feature extensively landscaped grounds highlighted by an attractive outdoor gazebo.
Kushner Companies' construction division, Westminster Communities, will develop Horizons at East Brunswick with construction expected to begin in the fall of 2002. An on-site model unit and leasing center is also planned to open for tours after commencement of construction.
Horizons at East Brunswick will create a new niche in senior housing for the East Brunswick community. "East Brunswick has responded to the growth of its senior population by establishing abundant services and programs," Freireich said. "At the same time, no upscale rental alternative currently exists for active adults whose income exceeds the qualifications for the township-sponsored apartments. Horizons at East Brunswick is designed for higher-income residents who desire the convenience and social benefits of renting in an age-restricted community."
The launch of Horizons at East Brunswick marks Kushner Companies' continuing expansion in the luxury active adult housing market. Westminster Communities is currently completing construction at The Horizons at Franklin Lakes in Franklin Lakes, New Jersey, which will open in the fall with 120 apartment homes for residents age 52 and over. In addition, the firm has received approval to develop Carriage Park, a 210-unit rental community for ages 55 and over in the Princeton suburb of Lawrenceville, New Jersey.
