Mursteins honored by foundation

Alvin Murstein, chairman and CEO of Medallion Financial Corp., and his wife, Aileen Murstein, president of East-Brook Realty, Inc., were honored recently by The Parker Jewish Institute Foundation for their leadership and support of Parker, a New York area health care and rehabilitation center for older adults.

The occasion was 'Parker's 10th Annual Golf Classic, which drew nearly 200 golfers to the Glen 'Oaks Club in Old Westbury, and raised more than $350,000.

"Alvin and Aileen Murstein have set an example through their deep and unswerving concern for the needs of their family, their businesses, and their community," noted Barbara N. Kurshan, chairman, Parker Board of Trustees.

Andrew Murstein, president of Medallion, and his sister, Amie Murstein, an executive with J. Walter Thompson, delivered tributes to their parents. "I truly have the world's greatest parents," said Andrew Murstein. "There are many wonderful things they have taught us, that I can only hope to teach my children too." Arnie Murstein described her mother as the "perfect mom....she has the warmest heart."

Alvin Murstein is a trustee of Parker and has been a director of both the National Association of Investment Companies and the Entrepreneurial Growth and Investment Institute. Aileen is active in the Cornell University Alumni Association. The Mursteins are known for their service to the community and active membership in UJA-Federation, B'nai B'rith, and the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) as well as the Old Westbury Hebrew Congregation, to which they donated a children's playground.

Parker is an in 95-year-old 527-bed nursing facility located in New Hyde Park, N.Y. It offers sub-acute and long-term care as well as a comprehensive range of outpatient community services.
