Riverbay at Co-op City "moved" by memorial

Real Estate Weekly, Sept 5, 2001

Marion Scott Real Estate, property managers for Riverbay at Co-op City in The Bronx, welcomed "The Moving Wall," a half-sized replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, DC for a week-long stay from August. 17 to 23.

Thousands of Bronx residents paid tribute to the 58,000 Americans who lost their lives in the conflict during the historic visit, the first time the moving memorial has visited New York City in over a decade.

The visit was made possible by the hard work of Carlos Baez, a decorated war hero and Co-op City resident who heads the Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 118. Baez wife, Iris. is president of the Riverbay Board of Directors and worked with Marion Scott Real Estate to transform an empty lot into a beautifully landscaped Veterans Memorial Park for the occasion. Members of the local fire department adjacent to the park also lent a hand, providing power and temporary lighting that enabled the memorial to be open to the public 24-hours-a-day for the duration of the visit.

Governor GeorgePataki, Congressman Eliot Engel, City Council President and mayoral candidate Peter Vallone, Councilwoman June Eisland and State Senator Guy Velella were among the dignitaries who joined veterans' groups and armed forces representatives at the opening ceremony.
