Construction work starts at cop shop

Real Estate Weekly, Sept 22, 2004

Construction is now underway at the East Orange Police Facility headquarters in East Orange, New Jersey.

MAST Construction Services, Inc. is managing the $19 million rehabilitation and expansion project, which has been commissioned by the City of East Orange.

Upon completion in September 2005, the existing 50,000-square-foot building, located at 15 South Munn Avenue, will receive a 3,000-square-foot stair tower addition.

The four-story building, which includes basement space, will house all of the principle operations of the police department, including offices for all command personnel, bureaus and squads.

It will also contain a public police desk, municipal jail facilities, records and communications.

Parking to accommodate 115 police vehicles and public parking spaces will be constructed on site.

According to MAST Construction Vice President John Delutis, "The headquarters building will allow the City to handle many functions under one roof, in turn streamlining the communications process between various law enforcement personnel."

The RBA Group is serving as architect for the project.
