Finkelstein honored for 50 years of achievement in the industry

Real Estate Weekly, Sept 28, 2005

Daniel Finkelstein, senior partner of Manhattan-based real estate firm Finkelstein Newman, LLP, has been honored by city, state and federal officials with various Proclamations in tribute to his illustrious 50-year career in law, announced Finkelstein Newman, LLP.

Finkelstein, who graduated from Brooklyn Law School in 1955, began his career as a senior real estate manager for the Board of Estimate of the City of New York.

His next position was as assistant chief enforcement attorney for the Temporary State Housing Rent Commission where he worked to protect rent-regulated tenants. In 1964, he began his own law practice and subsequently became one of New York City's first practitioners of landlord-tenant law.

As a result of his knowledge and devotion to his profession, he has been recognized for numerous achievements by such groups as The New York State Bar Association, American Bar Endowment, New York County Lawyers Association, Civil Court of the City of New York and Brooklyn Law School.

In addition, Finkelstein was awarded Certificates of Appreciation by Presidents Kennedy, Johnson, Nixon and Ford for his work on behalf of the U.S. Selective Service System. Finkelstein is the co-author of West Publishing's two-volume treatise on landlord-tenant law and serves as the co-executive editor of acclaimed law journal, Landlord-Tenant Monthly.

In addition, he presently teaches at New York Law School as an adjunct professor of law and was formerly an adjunct associate professor of real estate at New York University, which awarded him its prestigious "Teachers' Excellence Award."

"Few lawyers continue to practice with style and grace," said Rick Matasar, dean of the New York Law School.

"Fewer still do so and maintain their sense of humor, humility and respect for others. Yet, fewer do so for 50 years. He is one of a kind and a treasure to our community."

On September 29, Finkelstein will be joined by many of New York's prominent landlords, managing agents, esteemed colleagues and such political luminaries as Congresswoman Carolyn B. Maloney, State Senator Sheldon Silver, Assemblyman Denny Farrel and City Council Speaker Gifford Miller at a reception in his honor.
