Tishman PM recognized by contractors alliance
Real Estate Weekly, Oct 31, 2007
Flora Ramos, a senior project manager for Tishman Construction Corporation, received the Arthur Pearlroth Trailblazer of the Year Award from the Regional Alliance for Small Contractors at a luncheon held recently at The Lighthouse at Chelsea.
"Working on the Freedom Tower project--in the heart of downtown Manhattan--was not something I planned on, but it is one of the most important assignments of my career. Being part of the rebuilding of such a significant and monumental project is certainly an honor," said Ramos.
"This award is very special to me and I thank Tishman and the Regional Alliance."
As a premier construction industry partnership headquartered in New York and led by major construction firms and public agencies, the Regional Alliance for Small Contractors was created in 1990 to assist the growth of small, minority and women-owned business enterprises in construction and related industries.
Ramos has been with Tishman Construction since 1993--serving in several unique roles on many high-profile projects in the New York metropolitan area including 7 World Trade Center, the first new building to rise at Ground Zero since September 2001; the Continental Airlines Global Gateway Program at Newark Liberty International Airport; and Claremont Tower (the regional FBI Headquarters in downtown Newark, NJ). She is currently part of Tishman's team managing construction for Freedom Tower at the World Trade Center site.
Currently, Flora is focusing on meeting Freedom Tower's Minority and Women-owned Business Enterprises (M/WBE) goals, and is striving to broaden initiatives for increased opportunities to M/WBE contractors on the historic rebuilding of the World Trade Center (WTC) site.
Her recent efforts on behalf of this program include the Regional Alliance-sponsored "Networking for Success" event in July, which drew over 400 attendees.
Flora's involvement with the Regional Alliance started in 2000, with the Continental Global Gateway project at Liberty International Airport and has grown since. She was also a key participant in attaining LEED credits on 7 WTC, and played an instrumental role in the building's gaining Gold status as NYC's first LEED-certified office building.
