MONY is back in mortgage business after hiatus

Real Estate Weekly, Oct 22, 1997

As leader of Sylvan Lawrence Company, Goldenberg has positioned the real estate firm as a major force in property ownership, management, real estate brokerage and consulting. An expert negotiator, Goldenberg strives to achieve maximum financial return on behalf of his clients by coupling his proven principles of sound real estate practice with his keen insight into the dynamics of regional markets. Having been responsible for saving clients millions of dollars in a wide variety of transactions, Goldenberg's advice is continually sought by investors, institutions, tenants, owners, and major corporations in the United States and abroad.

Dubbed "the ultimate negotiator" by both competitors and clients, Goldenberg offers his clients expertise in financing, valuation, management, operation, construction, corporate relocation and investment. Given the depth of his experience, Goldenberg enjoys an unusually rich cross-section of transaction activity, as reflected by his recent $50 million sale of a commercial property in Florida and his advisory role to an American corporation expanding operations into sub-markets of London, England.

Under his continued leadership, Sylvan Lawrence has not only grown in the brokerage and consulting fields, but continues to remain an important force in property ownership and management. When asked to describe to what he attributes the overwhelming success of Sylvan Lawrence in the past 25 years, Goldenberg explains, "Sylvan Lawrence Company has continued to prosper and maintain its foothold in the New York real estate community because we pride ourselves on providing our clients with the performance, discretion and professionalism that keeps them keep coming back. In the years ahead, we look forward to further expanding the expertise that we have cultivated as a company to include an even broader international market base."

Having accepted the presidency of Sylvan Lawrence Company in 1975, Goldenberg later assumed the role of chief executive office after the death of Mr. Lawrence in 1981. In a move that can only be described as a landmark achievement in his career, Goldenberg is credited with steering the transformation of Sylvan Lawrence from an ownership entity to a full-service real estate brokerage and consulting concern by selling - largely within three years - more than 100 buildings for $1 billion to a variety of American and foreign buyers.

Goldenberg's career began in 1957 when he joined Brown, Harris, Stevens, Inc., one of New York's oldest real estate brokerage and management organizations. In 1960, he earned the distinction of becoming the youngest officer in the firm's 88 year history. He then rose to the position of Senior Vice President and served as Director of Brown, Harris, Stevens' financial district office.

In addition to holding a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration from New York University, Goldenberg holds a Juris Doctorate Degree from New York Law School. He has had numerous public speaking engagements at industry events and is a frequent contributor to a wide variety of business, real estate and news journals such as Real Estate Weekly, The New York Trines, Crain's New York Business, The International Real Estate Journal, and Commercial Property News.

Professional associations of which Goldenberg is a member included: Governor of the Real Estate Board of New York; The National Association of Real Estate Boards; and The International Real Estate Federation. He was also a former member of the Mayor's Real Estate Advisory Commission.
