McCann Inc. to build News America space - awarded contract for construction of corporate office headquarters for New America Publishing Inc. in New York, New York

McCann, Inc., a leading construction management and general construction contracting firm has been awarded a $10 million contract for the construction of News America Corp.'s corporate office in New York. The project, which begins in November and will be completed in 10 months, encompasses five floors, totalling more than 200,000 square feet of office space.

News America is consolidating its various New York operations: 20th Century Fox film studios; 7-V Guide magazine and Fox Television - Channel 5, currently scattered in space around New York City, into one location at 1211 Avenue of the Americas (between 47th and 48th Streets).

In announcing the contract, Bruce Fahey, president of McCann, Inc. said, "We are very pleased to have been awarded the construction of News America's New York Corporate office. This is a vote of confidence for us from News America. It is our 12th project in 1211 Avenue of the Americas."

In 1211 Avenue of the Americas, McCann, Inc. has also been awarded the construction of 110,000 square feet for CIT Financial, 40,000 square feet for Partners & Shevack and 90,000 square feet for Chase Manhattan Bank.

The floors to be renovated in the JMB Realty-owned building are currently empty, but were the offices of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) until mid-1992.

The construction involves a complete interior construction, including new offices and comprehensive security, electrical, mechanical, plumbing, heating, air conditioning and ventilation systems.
